Rather than subjecting you all to an incredibly long rant about the algebra review class, I'm going to post some character questions before doing homework. That's not to say the rant won't happen eventually. Just not tonight*, if I'm ever to get the homework done.
The characters:
Serge Aliri-Keran - totally not a shaman. Nope, he's not talking to animals, why would you say such a thing?
Orlando Neila - a trusted employee of Green Man Pharmaceuticals.
Emeryis - a traveling player and trainee paladin.
Harmonia - a telegraph operator with violent vigilante tendencies.
LucianThorne Dawson - He's a programmer, and he's afraid of germs.
Jeanne - She's best described as a muddy peasant. But she might want to be a paladin.
Brin Lankari - Light-side Jedi who flirts with anything that moves.
Hans - Rainer's bâtman/squire/minion.
Rainer - regent, heir, and commander of the armies for the four-year-old Duke of Valdorpf.
Steliana - another pretender to the duchy of Valdorpf.
The questions**:
What might be a good pick-up line for Lucian to use on Jeanne?
Lucian doesn't want to pick-up Jeanne. Not unless she takes a bath, and brings her personal hygiene level to one acceptable sometime after the middle ages. If he encounters her before these things happen, he's keeping his distance, and probably not saying much of anything.
Harmonia and Orlando need to break into a secure facility to blow something up and/or rescue someone. What is their strategy? Does it work?
I'm going to say that Harmonia's in charge of fighting stuff, and Orlando's in charge of picking locks/defeating alarm systems/etc. Since this is pretty much what they get paid*** for in their separate continuities, they are probably successful.
The fate of the world hangs on the ability of Lucian and Orlando to acquire a yummy homemade cake. Are we doomed?
Fortunately, Lucian is capable of following the directions on a box of cake mix. It's not brilliant gourmet cuisine, but it's good enough.
Orlando, Jeanne, Rainer, and Serge are presenting a television newscast. Who presents which part (news, sports, weather, etc.) and what happens?
Well, this is a wildly anachronistic newscast. First, Orlando and Serge get to explain 1) television and 2) newscasts to Rainer and Jeanne. Serge may take refuge in French--although his mother actually is involved with the news media somehow, so he probably knows more about what's supposed to be going on, and frequently jumps in to correct Orlando's explanation--and then remembers he's pretending not to speak the language.
Also, Serge's family connection to the news media just got him appointed in charge of this newscast. I think he's going to end up presenting most of the news--Orlando can possibly be convinced to present some subset of sports, entertainment, and business. Rainer and Jeanne had better just be correspondents in, er, ~1800 and the Middle Ages****, respectively. Clearly these are necessary parts of every reasonable newscast.
Serge cross-dresses. Where, when, and why? Which character do they meet, Steliana or Hans? How does everyone react?
. . . Apparently Serge cross-dresses approximately 200 years before he was born****, if he's running into Steliana or Hans. Evidently he got bored while time-traveling.
. . . I didn't realize he had access to a time machine. I'm pretty sure either Steliana or Hans would be incredibly surprised and confused, especially if Serge's disguise was from his time rather than theirs . . .
Your characters have been sent as part of a group to explore a different planet. People start disappearing entirely with no explanation. Soon your characters are the only remaining members of the group. What happens next?
. . . I'm seeing factions and wild accusations. Harmonia assumes cannibals. I'm not sure who she thinks is/are the cannibal(s), but they're definitely her default scapegoat. And she's sticking with Emeryis. I think Serge, Orlando, and Lucian are another faction, being generally slightly distressed by Brin and slightly confused by everybody else being obviously from the past. Hans and Rainer are sticking close to Steliana just in case she might be responsible. Jeanne may end up in their faction just because their native tech-level is slightly more understandable to her than everyone else's is.
. . . I think this means Brin's in charge of keeping the peace. Oh dear.
Rainer and Jeanne have to get to the heart of the spaceship (through the chopper thing, and the swirly knives, and the ray guns). What happens?
We couldn't have come up with some people less likely to grasp the concept of 'spaceship' now, could we? Their efforts are tragically doomed by their complete lack of knowledge of any technology more recent than 1800****.
Serge falls in love with Harmonia. Emeryis is jealous. What happens?
. . . I really don't think Harmonia notices. Emeryis eventually realizes this and gets over it. Serge is just out of luck (and anachronistic, but we've been over that).
Emeryis is suddenly put in charge of a group of about ten children. What does he/she do?
He puts on a puppet show! With VOICES!
For some reason, Steliana is looking for a roommate. What's the reason? Should he/she share a studio apartment with Emeryis or Orlando?
Steliana is looking for a roommate because her claim on Valdorpf (and the attendant lands/fortune/etc.) has just been called into question by Rainer's reappearance, and she's a little short on cash. Neither Emeryis nor Orlando is a particularly suitable roommate for a woman of her station, considering they're both male, and I don't know that either of them has remotely the same cultural expectations as she does.
However, she could probably manage to employ Orlando as a bodyguard in return for giving him a place to live, so we'll say she'd be better off with Orlando.
Rainer and Serge are in a comic book. Who is the superhero, and who is the sidekick?
I'm saying Rainer's the superhero because I don't think he does well at following, and thus would not be a suitable sidekick. Although if the comic book is "Adventures in Newscasting", an earlier question addressed this issue.
What is, or would be, Jeanne's favorite book?
Something unexpectedly girly. Some romance novel?
Everyone is invited to Steliana and Harmonia's wedding, except for Rainer. How do they react?
Everyone is very confused, having had no idea that Steliana and Harmonia even knew each other, and not necessarily knowing either of them. I don't think Rainer cares one way or the other, although he might wonder why Steliana has stopped trying to marry him for political reasons.
Serge and Rainer need to break into a secure facility to blow something up and/or rescue someone. What is their strategy? Does it work?
Serge accompanies Rainer on an Official Visit to the facility in question. Suitable applications of fast-talking, name-dropping, and Serge sneaking off at an opportune moment allow them to achieve their objective.
How would Emeryis and Brin end up in prison and how would they escape?
Probably because the bad guys pulled strings to make it happen. Or else there was some sort of cultural misunderstanding. I'm going to say that Brin uses the Force to aid their escape (because clearly that's what the Force does . . . ).
Steliana and Lucian are on a blind date together. They are waiting for a table at the restaurant when there is an earthquake. How do they react?
. . . Is this before or after Steliana marries Harmonia? Lucian is appropriately concerned about downed power lines and broken sewers, and may or may not remember basic earthquake safety procedures. Steliana is probably quite distressed, but she knows the importance of appearing to remain calm.
If you had to walk home through a bad neighborhood late at night, would you feel safer in the company of Harmonia or Hans?
Given the choice between scary chick with gun and skinny teenage boy, I'm going to say Harmonia.
When Emeryis takes over the world, which of the other characters does he/she choose as minions and who gets killed/jailed/put out of the way immediately?
Wait, Emeryis is taking over the world?
Lucian is one of the few survivors of the apocalypse. What does he or she do?
If he still has a reasonable supply of food, water, and disinfectant/a way to get them, and a working computer, and some sort of place to live, he goes about his business as usual. If not, he takes steps to secure the aforementioned objects, and then goes about his business as usual.
*Fine, it's been a few days since I started this entry.
**Questions collected from various places mostly on the internet, list generated by a python program.
***Technically Harmonia gets paid for (at various times) operating a telegraph, bodyguarding Liyet, and knitting lumpy socks, but she wishes she got paid for random violence.
****All inter-continuity time conversions approximate.
